Rising utility costs is becoming more of a reality and a burden for homeowners. Frustrated to say the least, many families are turning to less traditional sources of energy to maintain their homes. Solar energy, burning wood for heat and wind power are common alternatives to public utilities. Solar power for homes is a clean and efficient method for generating electricity or simply heating water for general household use. Plus, these Ontario solar power generating homeowners also enjoy the benefits of selling excess power back to the grid.
Photovoltaic solar panels, or PV modules, are used to generate electrical energy which is then stored in deep cycle storage cells for future use. Although many homeowners using solar power also rely on some public utilities, others have made the jump towards total independence. As the saying goes, they have gone ‘off the grid.’ Another common use for solar power is to heat water by circulating it through special panels. Although the cost of installing any type of solar power for homes can seem like a significant investment, once the installation is paid for, homeowners will see a drastic reduction in their utility costs and may even make money on their investment.
Installation of solar components has become much less intrusive than it was in the past. In its infancy, Ontario solar systems weren't necessarily installed with visual appeal in mind. Today however, with technology offering both form and function, aesthetics are being considered during the installation process. Underground cabling, low profile and bendable panels, state of the art mounting hardware and components that simply don't look out of place are now more prevalent than ever.
Solar power will certainly continue to grow in popularity among homeowners, not because it seems like the thing to do but because it will be necessary. Generations of children raised in a world conflicted by the need for energy and the responsibility to protect the planet, are certain to make great strides in further developing solar power solutions.
